A Simple Command

The Lord's Supper is a memorial.  He said, "Do this in remembrance of me."  We memorialize men with fancy statues and extravagant memorials.  Just think about what we see when we go to Washington, D.C. - the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Vietnam and World War II memorials, just to name a few.  And when we visit any graveyard, we see tombstones and other memorials to those who are buried there.  Today we come here to see the memorial of Jesus Christ.  But there's no marble stone or monument, just simple bread and juice.  As we look at Jesus' memorial, we see that His farewell gesture was a simple meal of fellowship; simple elements and a simple command, "Do this in remembrance of me."  (from the sermon, "Looking Out the Window", October 3, 2021).
